Who is the Real Rockstar!

I am not a fan of Ranbir Kapoor. And by saying this, I have no qualms about it because I know all the women out there are mad about him. He is a put off for me because he is 'perfection personified'. He is a fantastic actor, dancer, son, image, born with a silver spoon and he has his PR right in place. But through his latest film Rockstar his character did strike a chord with me. Jordan!! His life is so imperfect before and after his 'rise to fame' as a musician that you sort of fall in love with Ranbir more than the character.
Rockstar is a film that you must watch out for. If you believe in unconventional love stories with pain and torture, then this movie is for you. The movie cleverly traces the journey of a young Haryanavi boy who aspires to become Jim Morisson one day. His hunger to do well and passion for music reflects through various tactics he uses to tread a successful musician's career path. He pretends to fall in love with Heer anticipating that she would definitely reject him and he would eventually feel sad about it. This is because he gets this idea from his mentor in college who later becomes the manager if his career. He advices him to associate himself with pain and trauma for music comes from a torn heart. He suggests him to have a heartbreak. Jordon chases Heer so that she could reject him all and all. But their consistent meeting become a starting point for a beautiful friendship. A friendship where no one judges anyone, where you could do whatever you wanted to do sans the fear of the society. Jordan and Heer become partners in crime for every little crazy activity then do. Heer is supposed to get married in two months time and Jordan has become her very good friend. That's about it. Jordan, like a good friend goes to Kashmir for her wedding but lies to his parents about the trip. They have a great time before her wedding in Kashmir. Only during Mehendi hour, when Jordon is making her smoke, Heer realizes that there some connection between the two but Jordon is unaware of it until and unless she asks him to hug her tightly. Heer gets married to settle in Prague and Jordon comes back home confused. Unfortunately, his brothers find out about his trip and the lie. They force him to sit on their family business. Soon the fights become frequent and eventually he is thrown out of the house for pursing Music as a career. He stays at Hazrat Nizamuddin for two months and gets back to his mentor's house for help. Meanwhile, Platinum music signs him up for an album because of Ustad Jameel Khan who sees Jordon perform at the Dargah. Jordan is not convinced about the music he is being offered to do. Meanwhile, a female journalist is tracing him for a story to be run the channel she works for. Ultimately, he agrees for the interview because of his contract with Platinum Records. The Journalist tells Jordan about Platinum's plan to send Indian musicians to Prague for an event. He runs to the office and requests Mr Dhingra (owner of Platinum records) to sign him on for the event. He finds himself in Prague in front of Heer. By this time Heer knows that she has something for him but he is still unaware. After her marriage, her tenure in Prague has gone in visiting Psychiatrist for her ill health. Jordan coaxes her to become part of their 'madness' again. She refuses initially but then she realizes that she had been longing for this moment for quite some time now so she gives in. They have fun in Prague for about a week. Jordan gives a fantastic performance at the international stage. But in one of the scenes, we come across Jordan's obsession with Heer. He asks her to kiss him. Heer gets caught up in the dilemma of whether to go ahead with Jordan or think about her marriage. They kiss but then she urges him to drop her back home. After the last performance of Jordan, he throws his guitar on stage and goes and kisses Heer, who is watching him perform from the stage wing. His obsession for her makes her feel scared of the repercussions since she is already married. That is also the day when Jordan is leaving back for India. Heer takes this opportunity to fight with him during the parting time. She requests him to not meet her again. Jordon is shocked with her attitude and this makes him aggressive and impulsive at various instances. He goes back from the airport to say bye to her but then he gets caught by the husband. She feels bad that her husband has found out about them. She insults Jordan in front of her in - laws for coming saying bye to her again. She screams and shrieks. This incident makes him very angry and aggressive with the cops of Prague. They put him in jail and try in court of law. He gets deported to India as criminal. By then, Platinum music has decided to cash on his negative image. They go on to release his next album and market it on his deported/aggressive arrogant image. Meanwhile, Jordan cannot get Heer out of his mind. He comes out from the jail and performs at various concerts. He doesnt know what he is doing, where is he heading in his life. He has no sense of motivation. Only a heavy heart with which he performs and releases his pain. Heer is brought back by her husban to her parent's house. Her health is deteriorated further. Soon, we are told that she has Bone Marrow cancer. Heer's sister Mandy tells Jordon about her sister's health. Jordon couldnt help but meet her in India. There is resistance from the family's side on his meeting with their daughter but Heer's improved health pushes them to let the things go the way they were. Jordon acts like a life support system for her. She becomes healthier but he puts his career at stake for it. She also urges him to got to McLeod Ganj for his concert. She decides to go with him for the first few days. He is happy and obsessed with her. She is depressed and she doesnt know where her life is taking her as far as her marriage is concerned. She comes back home to find herself in a fainting situation. She gets admitted in the hospital. Her doctor suspects that Heer is pregnant which sends her to a state of coma. Heer's sister calls up Jordon at the Mcleod concert and blames him for her sister's condition. He leaves everything and goes to see Heer in the hospital where her family members blame him for her ill health. This makes Jordon angry and violent with media. The movie ends on a montage of the two doing different things in happier times. There are many endings to the movies because Imtiaz Ali has left it open to the audience. No one really knows what happens. Does she die?Does she have his baby?Is she really pregnant? Does he become crazy?Interpret your own ending depending on the level of your relatibility with the film.

Roskstar is not just a film. Its a journey. A journey of love, passion and career. The interesting aspects of the movie is that Jordon is constantly running behind his career and his love. He doesnt get both in the end in its entirety. This movie leads you to ponder and ask different questions and self introspect about the level of sacrifice that you can make your loved one. It makes you believe in the power of God who is watching everything and without whose consent even a leaf wouldn't move (my mom says that). This experience is a must watch for all those people who share something in commonality with the characters in the film. Respect Ranbir!

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan

What can you expect from a Katrina Kaif starrer? Well, to be honest I went for this film because of all the hype around it. Besides, I also likes the music. It was a fantastic film. Total paisa vasool. Not in terms of the story (which was another cliched one) but in terms of the freshness of the film. With full confidence I can say that Katrina Kaif acted well in the movie and that she surprised all of us.I actually did not expect much from her but starkly she was different from a similar flick 'Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani'. The movie is full of some activity of the other. It just doesn't let you sit on you seat and watch the smooth flow of the movie. It was action packed with instances, events and hilarious moments which I'm sure some of us would have definitely attempted in our lives!!All in all it is a fun movie!!

Guzarrish

Maybe the Story could have been this!

What can I say about Sanjay Leela Bhansali? The first thing that comes to my mind and heart is that he loves to play with emotions. Emotions of his characters and the audience. As analysed by my mom, all his movies look like a representation of a story picked from a fairy tale book. And I, totally agree with her observation. The script was good and so was everyone's acting but the depressing side to his stories kind of mars the audiences enthusiasm to love his work.
No doubt he is a perfectionist. But the negativity attached to his every film makes it difficult to digest the story once you walk out of the multiplex. His stories are contradictions of the philosophies propagated by him in the story. It looks like he is trying to clear his confusion about his characters. I would say Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was his best movie so far. And why am I saying this? Firstly, you need temperament to watch his imagination. Secondly, his stories demoralize your perception about a happy life.
Guzarrish had terrific dialogs and screenplay. But another way of formulating the story could have been when Ethan could have got better suddenly after his bout with the rain water. And at the same time his petition for euthanasia could have been passed. And that is when he gets caught in the dilemma between weather to die or not and thus, the story about his Guzarrish of living the perfect life with Sophia. And he embraces life. Question is not weather he is a coward or not. It lies in his choices for living the kind of life he wants to live.

Nevertheless, I loved the dialogues and the music of the film. Its witty and charismatic respectively.
And please Mr. Bhansali, we need some colour in life. So when u decide to make a film for us and you want us to go through 2 and half hours of confrontation with your imagination then please add some life into the film. It looked dead on 70 mm.

ENEMY OF THE STATE

ENEMY OF THE STATE (1998)

'Enemy of the State'- like the name suggests was anticipated as a full on action drama. Infact that is why i chose to devote 2 hrs of my precious time to it. Unfortunately, the movie did not live up to the expectation of its name. It is a rather simple story about a labor lawyer ( Will Smith) getting dragged into a unnecessary conflict with the US Intelligence because of an ambitious politician who intends to hide a murder of a fellow politician as planned by him. The whole story looked made up along with its action sequences.Too may coincidences in the film. Its not a typical Hollywood flick because towards the climax it began to look boring. The story could have been something else and something more. Unnecessary cast has been drawn in the film to divert and confuse the audience off the plot. As fas as acting skills are concerned, Will Smith,Gene Hackman and Jon Voight have done a decent job.

However, watching a Will Smith movie is generally a gratifying experience. I guess it wasn't this time around. I actually do not remember much of the movie. The imageries of Will Smith sprinting for his life are the only ones that come to my mind. Neither the female actor fitted in nor did they perform a good job. It is sad that a female actor was not given a pivotal role. Either you have them with an author backed role or you dont have them at all.

For an action movie, it was a big disappointment.

AVATAR

It was like I was enjoying my holiday sunbathing and chilling when my sister urged me to go for a movie with her. Ok. The deal was that her exam was over and she wanted to do something good and have fun today. But there were glitches like her tuition and my gym. The timings were not setting. We browsed through the city page again and again to accommodate any movie that was out in the theaters. Definitely, the first preference was New Moon. But the timings were just not matching. So we came up with a plan A - the show was for 5:05 pm for Avatar and her tuition ended at 4:45. We had to park, buy the tickets and grab something to eat in 15 minutes. She was done with her tuitions and she called me again and again from the parking. And i was late. So 15 min minus 5 was the score. Darn. I dont know what i wore but it gave me a feel good factor that finally i was going for a 70 mm film. I have been downloading movies or borrowing them from my friends or even depending on my DVD chap. I kind of missed the hall.

So we hit the car and i drove like crazy to be on time. I got the movie tickets at 5:00 pm. tick tock tick tock. We had to get to the 3rd floor with the escalator. The ticket check and the 'for the heck of it' security check was making me nervous for missing the first 5 minutes. We entered in and the ushrer began guiding us to our seats but it was too late for that so we decided to sit anywhere. Finally we were sitting but one problem- my stomach was growling. Anyways i tried to forget that and began concentrating on the movie.

So there they were. The Avatars. I must say i was completely mesmerized at the creation of such beings. I mean how can u think so beautifully? They were tall, had athletic bodies and the most important was the 'charm'. This movie elevates you to a position where beauty cannot be defined. The screenplay, the cinematography and the imagination completely outdid the 'Titanic' feel. You can experience a new level of gorgeousity (i dont know if this is a word) with this film. The expression of the characters were so expressive that they looked like you and me. This movie takes Hollywood to a different level and sets very very high standards for the Indian film industry. I literally had goosebumps in most of the scenes and i felt like living the Pandora dream.

Just forget the story for once and enjoy one of the most beautiful creations by mankind-the creation of Pandora!!aaaahhhh

And yes i missed my gym! But never mind. The movie compensated for the loss. Will burn extra calories tomorrow.!!
